I always wanted a fish tank and so my girlfriend and I decided that the time was right since we were in the middle of redecorating the living room. We seen some Biorb online and we originally wanted the Biorb Life fish tank but we couldn’t afford that particular model so we ended up getting a Biorb 30 litre fish tank.
We literally knew nothing about keeping fish and also my girlfriend said that it’s my responsibly to clean, feed and maintain the tank. Wow a lot of work I thought!

So below is how I started from nothing to knowing quite a lot about keeping fish in a birob, although I’m still unsure about most things I’m very keen to learn and ask questions.

Beginning My Biorb Journey:

Since we couldn’t afford the Biorb Life fish tank we knew that we would have to settle for a cheaper model and then one day when we were visiting a garden centre we seen the Biorb 30 litre fish tanks and they had a good deal going on. We spoke to the staff and they suggested the Biorb’s as they pretty much look after themselves and you only need to clean it every 3-4 weeks. Wow I was sold and we were also advised to get tropical fish as they are much cleaner than cold water fish. We paid for the fish tank and we went home to set it up.

I have spoken to a few of my friends and done plenty of research and they all say that goldfish in the Biorb is bad for the fish and that gold fish can grow quite big and that they are more messy than tropical fish.
Setting up Biorb Fish Tank

I couldn’t wait to get home and set the fish tank up. I took everything out of the box and then read the instructions and also watched a YouTube video of the setup but that was after I set it up to make sure it was right.

The Biorb comes with ceramic stones which are basically the fish’s toilet (nice) but for the 1st time you have to thoroughly clean them. I ran the tap water over them and so much crap came off them it ended up taking around 20 minutes just cleaning the Biorb ceramic media.

Big mistake found 6 weeks later with fish already in tank.

You’re given everything you need to setup the Biorb fish tank and the instructions are pretty much self explanatory. However I made a mistake when setting it up. I think I read the instructions wrong and it said that it comes with a filter so I thought it was a spare one. Little did I know until I went to wash the filter for the 1st time that there was no filter in the Biorb I forgot to put one in. Luckily we had 2 tropical fish in there and they seemed to be fine. There still swimming happily after 10 weeks. Basically the filter works like a Hoover and traps a lot of fish poo to it and every few months it needs replacing but after 4-6 weeks you can rinse it out in the fish water when your cleaning it.

Before you can add any fish into the Biorb fish tanks you have to make sure the water is right. The Biorb comes with a start up kit solution. You poor one in the 1st day and then after 2 days I think it was (read the instructions as my memory is rubbish sorry) you add the 2nd solution. This is just the 1st step you then have to wait a further few days for the tank to cycle.

This is because when the fish poo or food in the tank rots it causes ammonia which is bad for the fish, so in order to help the fish the water must be cycled first so bacteria will convert Ammonia into Nitrite which is also toxic to fish and then to Nitrate which is what you need to get rid of the bad stuff. I’ve probably haven’t done this justice but just read the instructions as it comes with a nice chart showing you.

However there are quite a few ways to do this and lots of people state you should do it certain ways like keep the fish tank cycling for weeks. Very confusing so we spoke to the guy at the garden centre who has a Biorb himself and he says that in order for the process to begin you need fish in there to start the process of which is also what the Biorb suggests.

Our First Fish In The Biorb 30 Litre Tank

So we were advised to get platys and start with 2, I have read some people get 10 and see how many last but that is just wrong and they have more chances to kill them all in the beginning. We started small and got 2 salt and pepper platys.

Biorb Fish Tank 30 Litre

Took a few pictures to show the Biorb fish tank we have 4 fish in the tank but the last 2 platys we put in the tank seems to hide quite a bit and don’t really come out much.

Feeding Fish In Biorb Fish Tanks

We were told to feed the fish about 4 pellets each every other day so this is what I have stuck to, I feed them in the morning and the 2 salt and pepper platys come straight to the top and start eating. Since we added 2 yellow platys they don’t come to the top for the food.

I usually watch and see if they are getting any food and sometimes they do and sometimes they just swim near the bottom or round the middle, I’m not sure if any of the pellets are falling and there either eating them or they are eating of the bottom.

I did a little research and found that some fish are bullies and that it may be better to feed at night in the dark so that there fish senses can guide them to the food. So I have now decided to try the night time feeding and see how it goes.

Cleaning Biorb Fish Tanks

So I have to put this at the end as no one likes cleaning well I don’t anyway but it takes around 30 minutes to clean the fish tank and here’s what I do;

I purchased a bucket that’s just for the fish so no cleaning detergents get used in this and that way the fish don’t get infected and die.

With the Biorb it doesn’t come with a cleaning pump you have to buy it separately and so I purchased one and found it really easy to use. You just put the nozzle into the gravel and press the pump a few times and the water starts flowing through the nozzle and into the bucket.

I usually do a 3rd of the water change every 4-6 weeks as this is what’s recommended so I stuck to that. I remove all the fake plants and the castle and put them into the bucket.

I also purchased a special cleaning brush to clean the glass without damaging it.

I then empty the water and refill the water with cold water and a little warm water, as its tropical you have to keep the temperature around 70ish I think ours is around 72 at the moment but at one point it reached 78-80 but the fish were fine.

Adding New Fish To Biorb Fish Tanks

Apparently Biorb suggest adding 1 fish per month to the fish tank while it’s still cycling. We will be adding 2 fish every month and we will stop adding fish when we have around 8 although the dude at the garden centre said his has around 15 but we think its too small for that many and were happy with 8.

Biorb Fish Tank New Fish Shy

A Few Bad Points About Biorb Fish Tanks

•	Apparently you can’t get sucker fish as the ceramic media can damage them.
•	It’s quite hard to see the fish with it being circular (sometimes it takes me a minute to spot all 4 fish)
•	Cleaning can be difficult due to the small open at the top
•	The Biorb heater pump comes off sometimes (maybe I didn’t add it on right as since I last put it on its been fine)

Awesome Points About Biorb Fish Tanks

•	Looks amazing and really stands out
•	Water stays clean
•	Easy to maintain
•	Doesn’t cost much to maintain
•	Good for newbie’s (especially myself)
•	Can keep beautiful tropical fish (it’s like having a rainbow in your tank)

So this is my honest review of the Biorb 30 Litre fish tank. I know it’s a bit long but I hope to have got the points across that I really love my fish tank and that it’s really not that difficult to keep tropical fish in a Biorb.

I highly recommend getting a Biorb fish tank. While writing this I also came across some great deals on Amazon so click here and check out the Biorb fish tanks and see all the wonderful accessories that you can get to go with your Biorb.

I really hope that if you get one you will learn to take really good care of it as keeping fish is also very relaxing and soothing. It also distresses you after a hard and busy day at work.

The most fun part for me when setting up an aquarium is picking out the accessories and ornaments. There are a lot of fish tank accessories and ornaments available in the market today and I’m telling you that you can get excited and you would want to buy all of them.

Biorb Accessories feng shui pebble pack white

Well the main thing is you should know if the fish that you own will be ok with an aquarium setup that will have ornaments. Discus fish (especially when it comes to breeding) are better off in a bare bottom tank.

You can still decorate it though but having fine gravel at the bottom and some plants still look more presentable for me. This type of fish need a lot of room so over decorating is definitely out. When it comes to accessories, you only have to purchase what you need in giving your fish the healthy environment it deserves.

One of my favorite fish tank accessories is the algae scraper.

Biorb Accessories algae cleaner

This tool will let you clean your aquarium without the need of

dipping your hand or your arm into the aquarium. Choose something that will both work for glass and acrylic. Some of them even come in cleaning magnets so you can make sure you’re getting 100% of the job done. These products cost about $49 to $100. Using an algae scraper regularly will surely keep the viewers happy.

Biorb Accessories volcano

Lighting is one of the fish tank accessories that you should be careful of. Find out first what kind of light your fish need or how long they need it turned on every single day. Some fish cannot be placed under direct sunlight and noisy areas such as doors and hallways so light is definitely needed especially if you are going to put them in a secluded area in your home.

Some of the lighting accessories include ballasts and cords, lighting timers and power strips and aquarium light bulbs. Make sure you buy lights that are specifically made for aquariums. Apart from an algae scraper and lighting, you also need to keep a box with you where you can store all test kits, medicine and additives. This will help you in organizing your stuff and this will avoid you from looking everywhere for the things that you need to maintain your aquarium. Fish pumps and aeration accessories are also staples to make sure your fish are supplied with the right amount of oxygen.

Why Should You Choose a Biorb Aquarium? – Reef-One has sold close to a million biorb aquariums since the Biorb first launched, many of which are owned by celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow & Ryan Seacrest. That is a lot of aquariums, but, is the biorb right for you? This article highlights the main reasons hundreds of thousands of people have chosen a biorb aquarium and will help you decide if a Biorb Aquarium is the perfect aquarium for you.

If you are thinking of buying an aquarium and have done your research you know that there are hundreds of different tanks, and aquarium options to choose from. Out of all of those choices, why should you choose a biorb aquarium rather than a different tank?

biorb tropical fish tank

Biorb Highlights – Why is the Biorb Special, Here Are Just a Few Reasons

o	The Biorb’s stylish design has enamored thousands, including dozens of celebrities who own one. (Just a few are Gwyneth Paltrow, Ryan Seacrest, Mariah Carey, & Jessica Alba)

o	Everything you need to start your Biorb Fish Tank is included, even a fish food sample

o	There are over nine different biorb tanks & sizes to choose from, and several colors

o	Biorb care is easy with the snap & twist biorb service kit

o	Biorb Aquariums have five stages of filtration for healthy fish

Everything You Need to Start the Aquarium is Included

The Biorb comes with everything you need to get your aquarium started, besides the fish. It comes with a water dechlorinator, light, air pump, filter, airstone, fish food sample, and ceramic media.

biorb filter

A few things that it doesn’t come with that you will want in the future are a biorb siphon hose, a fish net, and fish food.

The Biorb Aquarium Line Offers Nine Different Tanks to Choose From

Since the biorb aquariums range in size from four to sixteen gallons it means you can find an aquarium that is the right size for you. If you want to keep things simple and put a betta on your office desk, the baby biorb aquarium (4 gallons) will work great for you. If you are looking for a more extensive set up with tropical fish, or are hoping to try your hand at a saltwater aquarium, the 16 gallon biorb life, or classic biorb give you that opportunity.

The regular biorb comes in a four, eight, or 16 gallon size, the biube comes in two, 9 gallon models, and the biorb life aquariums come in 8, 12, or 16 gallon sizes.

The Biorb Lines are the Classic Biorb, Biorb Life, & Biube Aquariums

Low Maintenance

We know that this one will catch your eye, if you are shopping for a nice aquarium for your home or office, chances are you do have another life, and you don’t want to spend hours at a time cleaning your aquarium. Great news, the Biorb Aquariums are a cinch to clean. The biorb filter is easily replaced with a snap and twist and the biorb has 5 stages of filtration.

You can easily maintain a healthy biorb aquarium by spending less than an hour a month. Don’t be fooled though, some people will say that the biorb aquarium is completely maintenance free. Anyone who says an aquarium is maintenance free is wrong. Every aquarium, no matter how advanced requires some maintenance. Saying that an aquarium doesn’t need maintenance is like saying your house doesn’t ever need to be cleaned. Sure, you could get by without cleaning your house for a year…but let’s face it, you would be miserable, and so will your fish if you don’t clean their tank.

The Good News About Biorb Care

Maintenance is fast and easy when done regularly. Just a few minutes a week will be enough to take care of your biorb tank. The main thing you will need to do is a water change, every couple weeks you will want to siphon out and replace a portion of your water. (more often if your aquarium is getting dirty faster). After a little experience a water change can be done in only 5-10 minutes.

Things to Consider Before Buying a Biorb

Biorb aquariums are great, however, they do have limitations like any fish tank.

Do a little research before buying the fish you want. Be sure to find out how big your fish will get, and if they will outgrow your aquarium you should choose a different fish to buy, or you will have to trade it in for a smaller fish as it gets bigger. Some fish aren’t suitable for the biorb aquarium, for example, some fish require more than 16 gallons of water, or require running water and lots of plants to stay healthy. If you want an extravagant aquarium setup with dozens of fish, the biorb probably isn’t right for you.

Don’t try to put too many fish in your biorb, fish need space, a rough rule of fish keeping is one inch of fish per gallon of water.

BIORB SUMMARY

Biorb aquariums are stylish, easy to setup & maintain, and come in lots of different shapes and sizes to fit both your budget and your aquarium needs. Before buying an aquarium determine what you want in a fish tank and the number and types of fish you want to house. If those numbers fit with a biorb fish tank, then chances are the biorb will be a great aquarium for you. The Biorb has been great for close to a million people over the last several years, is it right for you, that’s for you to decide.

5 Things You’ll Need When You Buy A biOrb

1. Test kits

Before buying anything else, it’s a really wise move to buy yourself a test kit. Unless you provide fish with the correct water conditions and monitor the water to ensure it stays free of pollution, you risk killing them, or at the very least causing them to become diseased. For a newcomer I’d recommend the Tetra Test 6 in 1, which uses simple and safe dip strips. You can pick these up for around £10.

biorb cleaning pump

2. biOrb Cleaner Pump

The biOrb Cleaner Pump allows you to suck dirt-laden water out of the ceramic media in the bottom of the tank, where it collects. If you do this once a week and remove about 25% of the water, then top up with dechlorinated tapwater, your biOrb should look pristine all the time. The biOrb Cleaner Pump costs less than £7, so it’s not bad value for something you’ll use 52 times a year!

3. A bucket

Water changes are very important and it’s always a good move to use a dedicated bucket that isn’t also going to be used to clean the car. Any old bucket from a hardware store will do the job. Keep your biOrb Cleaner Pump in it and store it somewhere where safe.

4. A filter starter

Before you put any livestock in your biOrb (or any aquarium) it’s massively important to ensure that it’s cycled or matured. This basically involves creating a culture of beneficial bacteria in the aquarium’s filter which will remove toxins in the fish wastes. There are a couple of products you can use to help speed up this process, which typically takes a couple of weeks. I’d go for either the new formula Nutrafin Cycle or Seachem Stability. Visit a good fishkeeping forum to get some tips from the members on maintaining your fish tank and on fishless cycling and you won’t go far wrong.

5. A biOrb Service Kit

The filters in the biOrb aquarium range are dead easy to maintain and all you need is a biOrb Service Kit. This includes a replacement filter cartridge which can simply be removed and replaced with a new one. The kit also includes a cleaning pad and a water treatment sachet and should last you a month or two. You can buy the biOrb Service Kit from Swell UK for around £5.

Swell UK is one of the of the UK’s leading suppliers of fish tanks including the full biOrb range, as well as numerous other aquarium supplies, pond supplies and garden supplies.

The BiOrb Fish Tank – Where it All Began — Many people who like to have fish as pets shy away from doing so for one reason or another:

They dislike having to clean the tank and change the water

They are afraid of over feeding the fish and hence killing them

They are unsure of what types of fish to keep in their fish bowl or aquarium

biorb fish tanks

If you fall in the category of people who like fish but are not sure what it takes to keep them, then you might consider getting a biOrb fish tank. From what you read below, you will realize how much easier this type of fish tank makes taking care of fish at home.

The biOrb aquarium was founded in 1998 by a father and son team named Matthew and Paul Stevenson. One of the main focuses of them creating the biOrb fish aquarium is the very fact that many people are unable to take care of fish themselves. Basically, the size of the biOrb fish tank was originally positioned between the very large and expensive fish tanks and the very small and cruel fish bowls or similar products. The convenient size made it very easy to keep as well as maintain where needs be.

One of the features of the biOrb fish tank that makes it most appealing to people is the fact that it comes with a built-in five stage filtration system that helps to keep the tank clean and the fish alive. Instead of having the type of aquarium where you have to change the filter or clean the tank on a very regular basis, this built-in filtration system prevents most of the work.

Today, you can find a wide range of biOrb tanks and aquariums on the market, including the biOrb 60, Baby biOrb and the cylindrical biUbe. The biOrb Pure and the biOrb: Spy Orb Edition have both been added to the range of products very recently and have appealed to the customers.

For just about $90, you can find yourself a biOrb fish tank that includes the setup kit and lights. Now, you can finally have fish as pets in the home without worrying about them dying before their time or the work that goes into cleaning a typical aquarium. Get one for your household today so you can finally have a set of pets that you always wanted. Whether you are going with tetras, hatchet fish or guppies, these Reef One tanks are perfect for smaller species.
